Prescriptions

Health on the patient record, under the medicines, and under Medications on an appointment. Shown to Prescribers.

Under the patient's medicines, Health lists their prescriptions newest first, each with its date and whether it is signed and sent, and Prescriptions opens the full list, where a new one is started. The same Prescriptions sits under Medications on the patient's appointment page, and from there the list comes back to the appointment. A prescription is written, signed and printed on its own page. Signing it puts your stored signature on it, above your name and qualifications, on the page, in print and on the copy that is emailed. Once signed it can be sent to the patient's pharmacy by email: the pharmacies used for this patient before are offered first, with the day each was last used, or type another address. It goes only to a secure pharmacy address, such as one ending nhs.net, and the page says so if you type any other; for any other pharmacy, print it instead. Tick Copy to me for a copy at your own address. Where that address is a secure one it is copied in; otherwise your copy comes as a separate email with the prescription locked with the patient's date of birth (DDMMYY), so it is offered only when a date of birth is recorded.

Once it has gone, the email opens as it was sent, with the prescription listed under Attachments; press its name to open it. Sending goes on the patient's log, a sent prescription can no longer be changed, and Open the email on the prescription goes back to the email at any time.

A prescription is not valid without a signature. Where you have none stored, Sign to send gives a box to draw yours in, with a finger, a pen or the mouse: press Sign and it goes on this prescription, on the page, in print and on the emailed copy, and the send is then offered. It stays on this prescription only. Otherwise print it and sign it by hand. A prescription that has gone can be sent again from Send again, to the same pharmacy or another; the pharmacy is told the new copy replaces the earlier one and is to be dispensed once only.
